THE PROCESS

I found images to use as reference photos, uploaded them into Adobe Illustrator, and traced over them in simplified solid black lines.

THE SOLUTION

To make an image completely out of solid black lines was a surprisingly liberating limitation. It challenged me to think about images differently. It forced me to deconstruct and simplify my illustrations, and only leave what's essential.

Because icons tend to be very digital and geometric, I wanted it to be known that there was still an element of human touch by having asymmetrical cross-hatching on the boom box, speakers, and microphones.

What I ended up with a is a set of Audio & Recording icons that are sharp with a touch of style.
